This is my first blog entry so I wanted to get warmed up with some regular stuff. I am working on some new ways to talk to students in the ASU Jazz in America class and one of the new ways that I am hoping will work is tokbox. You can find tokbox at www.tokbox.com.
Dr. Sunkett and I needed a new way to communicate with the students and we were concerned that the class, which is only online with a website, is not personal enough. We wanted a way that students could meet without downloading software.
Tokbox is the solution that we went with. There is no software to download and you can call multiple people at once with video. It also has a great video mail option that is easy to use. We had originally thought of using skype because that is what www.emusicinstruction.com uses for all of our lessons, but that includes the cumbersome task of downloading the software and conference calls with video are not free. emusicinstruction found that skype has a better picture and we liked that it had the large window and the small window -as opposed to the split screen offered by tokbox.

I have also made the decision to move to tokbox with emusicinstruction. Tokbox also has the ability to embed the application into your website. This will be a tremendous advantage for our students. I will post more on this topic later.
